Community-based project

Earthseed is a community-based project and creative research endeavor in the form of a shared practice retreat organized by myself and visual artist Gabby Miller.
Taking inspiration from Octavia Butler’s seminal Parable series, the retreat brings together a community of twelve+ artists, writers, farmers and organizers of color, for seven days of tactile engagement (cooking and eating together, gardening, group meditation, dialogue, land practices, and other critical skills of self-care, collective care.)
As a momentary “liberatory space” the inaugural 2017 POC retreat occupied the 120 acres of Salmon Creek Farm, a former 1970s commune in Mendocino County. This year’s retreat took place at This Will Take Time, an independent artist retreat in the same county.
